FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – REGARDING VOLTAIR AVALANCHE AIRBAG ADVISORY NOTICE

About this change

Why is Arc’teryx making this advisory notice?
Our quality control team has recently discovered an issue with the Voltair battery due to an unanticipated change during battery production. This change impacts the proper deployment of the airbag when the battery is exposed to temperatures below -20°C (-4°F).
Which models are involved?
Both 20L and 30L Voltair Avalanche Airbags are involved.
How do I know if my Voltair Airbag is involved in this advisory notice?
If the sticker on the motor controller indicates -30°C as the minimum temperature limit, then your Voltair Airbag is involved.
How did you discover that this revision was required?
In the course of constant product testing we discovered a change in battery production that requires a revision of the stated minimum operating temperature to -20°C (-4°F).
Have there been any reported failures in the field?
No, there have been no reported cases of deployment failure in the field.
Does this advisory notice involve any other component of the Voltair Avalanche Airbag?
No, only the minimum operating temperature of the battery is involved.
Does the minimum operating temperature change affect the Battery LED meanings?
The only LED affected is the flashing green LED on the battery which indicates that the battery is fully charged and ready for multiple days of use or approximately 8 inflations and at least 1 inflation at -20°C (-4°F).
Even when the battery is fully charged, and the green LED is flashing the Voltair Airbag should not be used in temperatures below -20°C (-4°F).
What will happen if I try to use the Voltair Airbag below -20°C (-4°F)?
Even with the battery fully charged, the Voltair Airbag should not be used in temperatures below -20°C (-4°F).
Why do the user manuals now state it will take 8 hours to initially charge my battery instead of 2.5 hours?
Since we shipped the original batteries, transportation regulations have changed. Lithium ion batteries now need to be shipped in a lower charged state. This means that when you first charge your battery upon receipt, it will take longer to reach a fully charged state.
